![]() ![]() I would have ranked it higher if either they had better food (it wasn't bad, just a little overpriced & nothing really special - however, the cheese in my dish was balls of real mozarella - yum!) or if there was a little more to the "spyness" of it, like more secret rooms or something. Really, it's a fun place, so if you're looking for a "fun" meal when in Milwaukee, I suggest going. If you are a spy-buff, or maybe just really into Bond or Bourne, for sure check it out. However, I was hoping for a little more in regards to the "safe house & spy" design of the building. ![]() My brother-in-law only found that by accident because (like all of us) he was playing around with everything there. There are some fun things there, including a secret exit. The servings were managable in size, though, which is nice and a big change from most other restaurants out there. We all tried some type of pasta dish I believe, so we didn't form an opinion of their steaks or other higher priced dishes. ![]() In our opinion it was a little overpriced. (Good thing we stuck around because we were almost going to leave and walk around downtown.) The food was okay. Well, I don't know if it's part of the spy games, but we were seated within 30 minutes. When we first entered we were told we'd have a 2 hour wait because we didn't have a reservation. Sometimes you have to do that, though, to appreciate all of the nuances to the building. I'm glad we were given a chance to freely do that, but we all felt a little awkward walking around and standing near people eating their meal. After our waitress took our order she suggested we walk around and check the place out. It is a maze-like building with all kinds of nooks and crannies. As we entered the establishment it started tantalizing our curiosity making us wonder what adventures and fun we'd experience for going to a "restaurant". I've heard about it for years including when it's been on food and travel shows. Huh? We will think hard before we return on our next trip to town. 3 of 4 adults ordered "specialty" cocktails they the server refused to let us order another one because they need to use the same glass. The food (steak sandwich, chicken sandwich, French dip, and kids meals) were mediocre at best. Once we were seated, it took a full 17 minutes for a server to even acknowledge us, and another 10 minutes past that to get drink orders even taken. We waited 15 minutes past our reservation time for our table (right inside the door - we could see it sitting set and ready from the time we got in). The service from the front desk once we got into the actual restaurant to the server for our table was terrible. I am hoping when I took my husband, kids and friends there this visit they were just having an off night. I highly recommend it.I used to go to the Safe House regularly when I was in college in Milwaukee in the late 90's. But it's a great place to bring friends or family that are new to the area and see them try to get into the place. Its pretty small though and a little crammed depending on where you sit. You are really going for the atmosphere and the uniqueness of the place. Which serves for fun entertainment, If you're looking for a good place for drinks you can find them at the Safe House Bar! They even have a 007 Martini that gets shaken as the mixer makes a trip around the whole restaurant through a glowing tube that goes around the top of the ceiling! The Food is good, but nothing crazy fancy. What you don't know is that your efforts to get inside are being broadcast to the whole restaurant via a hidden camera. Like hoola hooping or doing something goofy. ![]() Their website has more about how to find them - If you don't know the password, you have to preform an act designated by the door keeper. The entrance is in an alley behind a door that says International Exports LTD. If you want to dive deep into the world of Espionage, the Safe House is the Perfect attraction! Besides being a restaurant, it used to be an actual Safe House for Spies in the 50's and early 60's which makes the feel of the place even cooler! There are Hidden and Trap Doors, Fake walls, a phone booth you can call your friends with that makes background noise to disguise where you are and you even have to know a password to get into the restaurant! Their website says if you arrive before 8pm you probably won't be asked the password, but anytime after that is fair game! It is a little hidden. ![]()
